GO Tank Medic

 DATA SHEET

 MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET

Tank Medic, from GO Industrial, is a highly concentrated fuel biocide formulated to eliminate and then control the presence of water, bacteria and fungi in your fuel storage.

From the running tank of your vehicle, to your bulk storage tank, Tank Medic will harmlessly dissolve and disperse water and biological contamination.  Contaminants are dissolved and then flow through the fuel system to be burnt off through the combustion process of the engine.

      Characteristics

      • Appearance Dark Green Liquid
      • Specific Gravity 0.95
      • Flashpoint 176° C
      • Viscosity Approx 18 cPs
      • pH (1% aq. soln. ) 6.0-8.0

      Note

Since Tank Medic will attack the existing ‘bug’ that is present, initial dosing will require more frequent cleaning/replacement of filters in the system to avoid blocking. Ensure that all efforts are taken to drain high levels of water first (where possible)

      Application

An initial dosage of 2 litres for every 1000 litres of fuel is recommended to thoroughly purge the fuel system of all contaminants.

Regular subsequent dosage can then be reduced to as little as 1 litre for every 4000 litres of fuel. At this level of 1:4000, fuel quality will be maintained, condensation will be absorbed, and biological growths will be prevented.

If necessary, a maximum dosage of 5 litres may be added for every 1000 litres of fuel, where bacterial/fungal growth is inhibiting the flow of fuel through the system.

In all cases, Tank Medic should be added prior to the addition of the fuel.

      What is "Fuel Bug"?

"Fuel Bug" are microscopic fungi, bacteria and yeasts. They live at the interface between water and diesel. They use the organic nature of fuel as a food source.  The water from the condensation in the fuel tank is what the fuel bug survives on, allowing it to reproduce at a very fast rate.

      Where do they come from?

This microscopic fungi, bacteria and yeast are naturally occurring micro-flora. They exist in the environment (the air, soil and water) around us. So widespread is their occurrence, they are almost impossible to keep out of fuel tanks.

Where does the Water come from?

For every litre of fuel dispensed a litre of air enters the tank.  This air contains moisture (humidity) and micro-flora.  The air condensates overnight leaving a layer of water on the roof of the tank.  Water drips into the fuel and settles over time on the bottom of the tank.  Mixed with the micro-flora, the perfect environment is created for the development of Microbial Contamination of your Fuel.

What are the Symptoms of "Fuel Bug"

      • Blocked dispensing or engine filters
      • Damage to your engine - injectors / fuel pumps
      • Fuel is visibly hazy
      • Corrosion of fuel system components and storage tanks

      Prevention is the Best Cure

We recommend that Donaldson TRAP Filters are fitted to the breather on your tank.  The Donaldson TRAP filter will filter the moisture and micro-flora from the air entering the tank during refuelling operations, thus preventing the onset of microbial contamination in your tank.

A maintenance program using Donaldson TRAP filters, and Tank Medic will assure the hygiene of your fuel storage and dispensing system.
